Website Security

Learn the basics
The security of your personal information is something we take very seriously. We are committed to ensuring your experience with is as safe and worry-free as possible. For this reason, we have outlined steps you can take to verify that the pages of a website are safe and secure.

What is a secure website connection?
A secure connection is an encrypted exchange of information between the website you are visiting and the web browser on your computer (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc) . Encryption protects your personal information during transmission by converting the data into a form, called ciphertext, that cannot be understood by unauthorized computers.

How can I tell if a website uses a secure connection?
Websites using encryption usually display a document called an SSL Certificate (shown below). Website servers and web browsers rely on a SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to create a uniquely encrypted channel for private communication over the internet. Websites obtain this high-tech encryption service by purchasing an SSL Certificate.

Can I verify my connection is safe and secure?
Yes, most browsers will display a lock icon  in the Security Status Bar (top of your screen) when you are on a secured page of a website.
If you click on the lock icon, you will see a security report showing that your connection is encrypted. You will only see this lock icon on secured website pages.
